Wingtip oxfords or wingtip loafers?

Oxfords are the classic answer: nine of the thirteen pairs here lace up as full wingtip brogues, and that is the version a dress code means. The four Nizam and Wazir loafers are the rarity: the same W-toe and broguing on a slip-on, which most makers simply do not cut. What does the wingtip detail actually do?
